ABOUT ME
My name is Saami Baig, and I’m a Houston-based gun violence prevention policy advocate who is deeply passionate about solving local issues through effective policy. My journey in activism has taken me from being a gun violence policy researcher to leading a team of local activists at March for Our Lives Houston as a Co-executive Director. My experience of writing a bill for the Texas Legislature and being appointed to the Harris County Safe Schools Commission has truly shown me the significance of amplifying youth voices within legislative spaces. This is particularly crucial when it comes to addressing issues that have the most profound impact on young people, such as gun violence. This website is a collection of my work, and a jumping off point for youth looking to get involved in legislative advocacy.
My Story
After witnessing the fear and lack of legislative solutions to gun violence that permeated my community following the murder of my neighbors in 2018, I began my work in gun violence prevention across Houston. Beginning in 2021, I joined the legislative team of March for Our Lives Houston where I pioneered legislative research for our organization. Now, I work as the Co-executive Director of March for Our Lives Houston, pioneering activism initiatives through organizing national webinars, connecting youth with legislative advocacy opportunities, and building space for youth to get involved in gun violence prevention advocacy through local government.
